Summary:
A five-day painting workshop with Barry John Raybould in the heart of the Tuscany countryside, Italy. This year will be a special workshop since it will be the inauguration of the new studio I have been working on for the past four years. The studio is in a spectacular location overlooking the Appenine mountains to the east, the Alpi Apuani mountains to the south (where Michaelangelo got his marble from), and the Magra Valley to the west. I hope you will be able to join me for this special event!
For a summary of my teaching materials and structured approach to learning, see my Virtual Art Academy website. For my background and philosophy of painting, see my personal website.
The painting workshop will be held in the Lunigiana region of Tuscany (the northern part of Tuscany near the Appenine mountains). This is arguably one of the most beautiful parts of Tuscany since it includes mountain as well as pastoral scenery and is also near one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the whole of Italy, known as the Cinque Terre region. I have spent the past few years rebuilding an old farmhouse and barn with spectacular views over the Alpi Apuani and the Magra River Valley, and this workshop will be the inauguration of the new studio!
We will work outdoors or plein air, and focus on finding out where you need the most help to move your painting forward. The workshop is tailored to your individual needs and the class size is kept small so we can do this. The workshop includes tuition and lodging near my studio. Students are expected to fly to Pisa airport (or Genoa or Parma), and rent a car. It is an easy 90 minute drive to the workshop location from any of these airports, mostly on a highway (motorway). In the evening, students typically prepare food together and eat as a group.
