Melbourne Beach, Florida
Both Barry's Plein Air Painting workshop and Steve's Drawing workshop are in Melbourne Beach, Florida. It is about half way down the east coast of Florida due east south east of Orlando. It is an hour and a half or so from the Orlando International Airport (MCO). There are international flights from there and direct flights from across the country. Melbourne also has a very nice airport, 20 minutes from Melbourne Beach.

Melbourne Beach is a small, beachside community, very laid back but with good amenities. The studio is 4 blocks from the main strip which has an assortment of nice B&B's. It is a very friendly, family oriented community. On one side is the Atlantic Ocean and 4 blocks west is the intracoastal waterway. It is a barrier island.
We can recommend to B&B's within 4 blocks walking distance and one a little further away:
- The closest to the studio (three block away with a nice walk through the park and by the river) is the Sea Glass Inn. It is a few hundred feet from the city pier on the intracoastal. It is very pleasant and quiet. There is a good restaurant within the block and city hall is across the street.
- The second place is closer to the ocean, just across AIA from the beach, called Port d'hover.
- The Pineapple Manor is 4 blocks from Steve's studio, 2 blocks to small shops, grocery etc, and a few houses away from a nice restaurant It is on the main road of this small town but that still does not make it at all busy. The outside is quite nice, very Key West with wrap around porches. It is across the street from the town hall, police station and city park, a very safe area.
- There is a third B&B about a mile down AIA directly on the beach, called Windermere Inn by the Sea.
These are all good locations, but there are also many other hotels and B&B's to choose from. Check AirBnB for a wide selection of private homes, apartments and rooms to stay.
Monterey Bay, California
Barry's June Plein Air Painting workshop will take place in and around Monterey Bay. He will be based in Pacific Grove which a lovely old-style hometown with many little shops, cafes and restaurants, just around the peninsula from world famous Carmel-by-the-sea. You can either fly in to San Jose International airport and drive to Monterey (about 1 hour), or fly to the smaller Monterey airport which is only minutes from Pacific Grove.
