What Is The Workshop Schedule?

The workshop will consist of four hours of formal tuition per day which will take place during the morning hours. In the afternoons you will be free to work on your own paintings, do some sightseeing, or watch Barry at work. This is an invaluable opportunity to observe Barry's process of creation as it actually happens, rather than watching a "canned" presentation. Barry will actually be searching for ideas and creating artwork for his galleries.

The schedule for week one of the painting workshop in Tuscany is:

9:00 to 10:00
Lecture on the topic for the day and critique of previous days work.

10:00 - 12:30
Painting and Quick Studies with personal guidance and advice from Barry.

14:00 to 18:00
Free time for working on your own artwork, sightseeing, or watching Barry at work. I recommend you work on consolidating the information you learned in the morning during this free time, in preparation for the next day of the workshop. This session is important for you to consolidate the information you have learned in the morning session. All work done during the afternoon painting session will be critiqued at the beginning of the following day.

18:30 to 19:00 Review with Barry

19:30 to 21:30  Students generally get together to organize dinner together

Will there be any walking involved?

Yes, there will be some walking when painting in the small hill town, but in the countryside we will generally be near our vehicles. There is a lot of great information on how to make your equipment very light in the Virtual Art Academy® course unit: Process Course Units

  1. Are there places in the village to conveniently buy food? Is there a bakery or small stores, resturants?

  2. Yes there is a supermarket just 10 minutes away and also several restaurants about 15 minutes away. Usually however, the students get a kitty together, and jointly prepare food in the kitchens of the large cottage, and all eat out on the large terrace underneath an arbor of grapevines that overlooks the mountains behind the castle. It is a wonderful setting to eat out in the company of the other students.
